Greta Garbo

Greta Lovisa Gustafsson (1905-90) was one of the greatest stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, though not a name generally associated with musicals.

After making her debut in Sweden in The Saga of Gösta Berling (1924), Garbo was invited to MGM by Louis B Mayer himself, and went on to star in twenty-one films for the studio. These included The Flesh and the Devil (1926), The Kiss (1929), Ann Christie (1930 [Garbo Talks!]), Queen Christina (1934), Camille (1937) and Ninotchka (1939 [Garbo Laughs!]).

It is a clip from Queen Christina included in Hollywood Party that (sort of) earns Garbo her entry here.
