Edward Thomas

The AFI catalogue seems to have no idea what is going on with Edward Thomas (1884-1943), or Ed Thomas, as it calls him in a double entry. According to the website, he worked as a set decorator on a film made eighteen years after he died. It also claims he made no films prior to 1933, although IMDb, for what it’s worth, has credits as far back as 1911. It’s a wonder they don’t claim he wrote ‘Adlestrop’.

There is a consensus that, aged 49, he had an uncredited role in Morning Glory. Presumably, he was formerly a stage actor. There is also agreement that his last appearance was in Val Lewton’s The Seventh Victim (1943). In between, he played a lot of waiters and butlers.

Two of these butlers were in MGM musicals: Hollywood Party and Sweethearts.
