Tom Herbert (1888-1952) was a character actor, and the younger brother of Hugh Herbert, to whom he bore a marked resemblance.

Like his brother, Tom Herbert worked in vaudeville, not making his first film until he was in his mid forties. The film was Travelling Husbands (1931), in which Hugh co-starred with Evelyn Brent. Tom used the name Tom Francis here and in a few other early appearances.

Herbert subsequently played, usually uncredited, in around sixty pictures in fifteen years, including The Cat’s-Paw (1934), Wife vs Secretary (1936), Kitty Foyle (1940) and, his last film, Night and Day (1946).

Tom Herbert was in two MGM musicals: Hollywood Party and The Merry Widow.
