June Clyde

Ina Parton (1909-87) was appearing on stage from the age of six, under the name Baby Tetrazani. After working with her sisters in vaudeville, she moved to Hollywood and was given the lead in Tanned Legs (1929), an RKO picture. Three years later she was named a WAMPAS Baby Star.

Clyde never became a major star, but appeared in around sixty features. Many of these were made in the UK, where she moved in 1934 or 35 with her husband, director Thornton Freeland. She travelled back to the USA frequently, both for film work and stage appearances.

June Clyde’s last screen appearance was a supporting role in a British-made Joan Crawford picture, The Story of Esther Costello (1957). She and Freedland spent their last thirty years in retirement in Florida.

Clyde was in just one MGM musical, playing the ingenue in Hollywood Party.
